Our Story

ENYA by Amma is an affordable luxury clothing brand founded by a Nigerian mother-daughter duo. We cherish the opportunity to return to what we already know.

‘Enya’ or ‘anya’ is the Igbo word for eye. The concept of seeing is used to describe love. In Igbo to love is to see somebody with your eyes, and to see them fully in their humanity. It’s a philosophy that can be found across many African cultures, we emphasize the importance of community and what it means to see each other.

ENYA renews African fashion through African eyes—celebrating cultural heritage, slow fashion, and timeless style. Our design style follows what we feel is the principle concept of African dressing—the body is the framework—clothes are meant to fit you, not the other way around.

Our mission is to create intentional, intergenerational pieces that transcend trends and honor tradition.

Meet the founders

Amma Ogan is the co-founder and principal designer of ENYA by Amma. A salient journalist, writer, and designer, Mrs. Ogan’s first love was the literary arts, starting from when she was a child through her university studies in English and African literature in Sussex, England.

During her time in Nigeria as a journalist  starting from  the late 1970s, making clothes became a needed escape from her intense journalistic obligations.

As she moved throughout the world, living, working, and raising her family in Lagos, New York, Johannesburg, Beijing, New Jersey, and Cape Town, she continued to make and sell clothes for women who were drawn to the ease and power of traditional Nigerian silhouettes, bringing a global sensibility to her work.

Now a retired editor, Mrs. Ogan brings a lifetime of experience in designing and making clothes to her new venture in partnership with her first-born daughter.

Oyinkan Olojede is the co-founder and CEO of ENYA by Amma. Oyinkan is a creative entrepreneur, brand strategist and designer based in New York. The Brooklyn-born, Johannesburg-raised Nigerian brings a global perspective to her work as a multi-hyphenate creative with a decade of brand marketing experience in media and agency settings.

In 2020 Oyinkan co-founded FourTwo Creative, a full-service creative agency building culturally relevant brands and creating authentic touchpoints with Black consumers with the power of storytelling. Oyinkan has ideated, pitched and produced campaigns for major brands—Spotify, Nike, Uber, and Disney among them.

Collaboration is a foundational value that Oyinkan has brought to her work throughout her career and one she now brings to leading this joint venture with her mother.
